Information content
The EURIPID database contains 4 main type of information:
- prices
- volumes
- managed entry agreements
- pricing systems
Prices
The price information in the EURIPID database dates back to 2010. It contains the official list prices of all reimbursed medicinal products of the participating countries on a daily basis in historical records. The price information is linked to individual medicinal products which are identified by their name and package description in local language and local product code and completed with standardised English attributes of their most important pharmaceutical characteristics relevant for the pricing and reimbursement authorities.
Since 2021 the price information is extended to non-reimbursed but regulated priced products of those countries where this information is available.
At least one type of price information is available for a product in the database from the following price types: manufacturer price (ex-factory price), wholesale price (pharmacy purchasing price), net retail price, gross retail price (net retail price + VAT). In some cases – where a certain price type is not published, but an official price calculation formula exists – the prices are calculated by the EURIPID project team. The calculated prices are highlighted for the users of the database.
The database contains the price information in the local currencies but in order to make the comparison of prices easier the prices are calculated in a common currency as well.
The database contains unit prices which allow the easy comparison of the different packsizes.
The price information is built up from the following data fields:

- Start of data validity
- End of data validity
- Reimbursement status
- Product name
- Package description
- Dosage form
- Dosage form group
- ATC code
- Route of administration
- INN & strength
- Number of units
- Company
- Manufacturer price (in common currency)
- Wholesale price (in common currency)
- Net retail price (in common currency)
- Gross retail price (in common currency)
- Manufacturer price by unit (in common currency)
- Wholesale price by unit (in common currency)

Volumes
The EURIPID database contains sales volume information dating back to 2015 on an individual product (pack size) level on a monthly basis.
Volume information is currently available from eleven countries; the EURIPID Secretariat strives to gather this information from as many countries as possible. Sales volumes mainly refer to the out-patient (pharmacy) segment.
The volume information is built up from the following data fields:
- Product code
- Country
- Month
- Nr of sold packages
Managed Entry Agreements
The EURIPID database contains information on the existence of managed entry agreements if this information is publicly available. This information dates back to 2017 and is organised on an individual product (pack size) level on a daily basis.
The EURIPID database does not have any information which would infringe any national law or contractual arrangement. This fact explains why further information (content of the agreement, net prices etc.) is not available.
The information on the existence of managed entry agreement can take three values: existing; non-existing or unknown.
The information on the existence is built up from the following data fields:
- Product code
- Country
- Starting date
- Termination date
- Existence of a managed entry agreement
Pricing systems
The EURIPID website would like to give support to the right interpretation of the pricing information therefore a dedicated interface was developed where country specific information about the pricing systems is available and regularly updated by the local country background information managers and revised by the county background information administrator (at least twice a year).
The information content concerning on the pricing systems encompasses information on:
- details of data delivery (source, frequency)
- general information on managed entry agreements
- scope of delivered products
- general information on the prices (calculation mechanism, potential discrepancy between the list and the real prices and further comments)
- specification of the delivered volume information
Quality assurance
The EURIPID project considers the quality assurance as of great importance therefore several mechanisms were applied and introduced to maintain the high data quality:
- the information in the EURIPID database is exclusively from official sources
- the processing of the received information is done in line with the standard operational procedures (SOP) developed for each country and are revised every year,
- the data standardisation is done in line with the data standardisation manual developed for the purposes of the EURIPID project and revised by qualified staff before the upload,
- built in quality control mechanisms help to avoid the feed-in of erroneous information,
- users can report any detected data error via an easy-to-use user interface,
- database revisions are carried out every year.
Access
Access to the EURIPID database is restricted to the experts of the national competent authorities of the participating countries and the services of the European Commission. Researchers from the academic sector may get information in line with the procedure described here.
The users of the database have full access to the information stored in the EURIPID database and can download the information they need. There are dedicated data query and graphic interfaces to help the display and extraction of the relevant information needed by the national competent authorities.
